i thought this book, punk rock etiquette: the ultimate how-to guide for diy, punk, indie and underground bands by travis nichols would be a good start for my songwriting goal.and was it? nope. ok, there are adorable comics throughout this book but, essentially, here is travis's insight: "the last thing this book would ever delve into is telling you how to write a song." fail. i need help, travis. thanks for nothing.
i also started watching the dvd series "the history of rock n roll" from time/life.episode 2, "good rockin' tonight" has an impressive minute of original footage of american bandstand showing teens doing the bop, frug, monkey, mashed potato, pony, jerk, watusi, and other sweet 60s dances. not enough coverage to pause, rewind, repeat, master. oh dick clark, when can we have a compilation of the best bandstand dancers on dvd. sock hop in my living room!
